Environmental consultant Jeff Harvey reported that work began immediately after authorization on February 19. The program EIR covers a wide range of on-farm and infrastructure conservation elements including seasonal fallowing, deficit irrigation, early crop termination, crop rotation, crop switching, canal lining, regulating reservoir storage, and drain maintenance/ET salvage. Growers should note: the board agreed that the project description should be as comprehensive as possible now — including potential future conservation methods — so PVID is not limited later. Harvey is also researching IID and Bard Irrigation District programs to capture any additional applicable on-farm conservation practices.
