Residents of the Napa Abajo neighborhood raised significant concerns during public comment about preliminary engineering drawings showing a continuous sheet pile wall (up to 5–6 feet) along Riverside Drive that would block river views and change neighborhood character/connection to the river. Staff emphasized that no final design decision has been made and that the design is only at early stages, with a public design review meeting being planned for late August or early September at the 35% design milestone. Staff confirmed they are actively investigating alternatives—including options that may only reach full height during flood events—and will present renderings and explanations to the community before advancing the design.
