1. Agencies are preparing together for severe wet weather. Alameda County’s Office of Emergency Services convened a pre-flood meeting with flood-control agencies, dam operators, water utilities and local cities. A committee member relayed meteorologist Daniel Swain’s warning about elevated storm indicators and possible warm storms that could raise snow levels to roughly 8,000–10,000 feet. ACWD staff emphasized that rain-fed tributaries can raise Alameda Creek flows regardless of upstream dam operations, creating risks to recharge, water quality and infrastructure.
2. Reservoir spill estimates apply to the wettest scenario. San Francisco Public Utilities Commission modeling showed a 20% chance of a San Antonio Reservoir spill in late January and a 30% chance of a Calaveras Reservoir spill in mid-January under the wettest scenario. These are possibilities, not expected releases. SFPUC said high-flow releases may activate dam emergency action plans and prompt agency notifications. ACWD remains concerned about high creek flows and their potential effects on recharge and water quality.
