Field testing and modeling confirm that Lindo Channel—particularly the stretch west of Highway 99—is delivering significant natural groundwater recharge, estimated on the order of 100 acre-feet per day (with uncertainty) when water is flowing. Multiple lines of evidence (infiltration tests, domestic well responses, and water quality sampling) all point the same direction. The consulting team is now evaluating whether a small inflatable structure on the Sycamore Bypass weir could keep more low-flow water in the Lindo/Big Chico system for recharge without affecting flood control operations. A final report will be available in early April.
