1. IID Withdraws from Salton Sea Authority, Shifts Focus to Conservancy
The Board voted 4-1 to withdraw from the Salton Sea Authority Joint Powers Agreement (effective June 2026) and appointed Chairwoman Dockstader to the Salton Sea Conservancy. Staff emphasized this is not a withdrawal from Salton Sea advocacy, but rather a refocusing of limited resources on the newer Conservancy, which will manage operations and maintenance of completed Salton Sea Management Plan projects. The Authority has secured important federal partnerships, including a feasibility study with the Army Corps of Engineers for 65% federal funding, but IID determined the Conservancy represents the better path forward for addressing air quality and habitat restoration at the sea.
