Golden Mussel Infestation Requires Immediate Treatment The district has confirmed significant golden mussel colonization throughout the 850 system, including multiple facilities and storage tanks. The Board approved up to $2 million in treatment expenses for 2026, which translates to approximately $30 per acre in additional O&M charges if fully utilized. District staff are evaluating copper-based products, including EarthTec QZ and Cutrine Plus/CPRO, and presented cost ranges for both a kill dose and ongoing maintenance dosing. The 850 system appears most affected due to slower water velocities and warmer temperatures, though winter maintenance inspections so far have not found mussels on the west side of the district's service area.
