1. Calabazas/San Tomas Aquino Creek-Marsh Connection Project Advances with Staff Recommended Alternative Staff presented the results of a planning study for a major habitat restoration project in lower South San Francisco Bay, recommending Alternative 6 — which would create approximately 1,800 acres of tidal marsh by breaching berms around former salt ponds (Pond A8 complex and Pond A4). The project reconnects Calabazas and San Tomas Aquino Creeks directly to the pond complex, which modeling shows will reduce sediment buildup in creeks and lower water levels along creek corridors during storm events. Construction funding (~$40 million estimated) has not yet been secured, but $9 million in planning/design grants have been obtained. The planning study report is expected to be finalized by June 2026, with design beginning July 2026.
