1. Groundwater Recharge Projects Prove Feasible — Multiple Sites Moving Toward Implementation Geosyntec Consultants presented a project recap on main outcomes from the Recharge Feasibility Analysis, a component of the $5.5 million SGM grant. Pilot studies at sites south of Chico demonstrated "excellent" infiltration rates of 1–2 feet per day, and reverse tile drain technology was validated as effective for recharging groundwater beneath active orchards without removing them. Three proposed recharge projects were outlined for potential advancement: infiltration basins along Rock Creek/Kiefer Slough (which also address flooding), a flood-MAR/infiltration basin project near Comanche Creek, and rehabilitation of the Durham Mutual Water Company pipeline to increase surface water use and reduce groundwater pumping dependence.
