1. Visitor Center and Trading Post Project Moving Forward with $7.1M Construction Plan
The Board received a comprehensive update on the Don Pedro Visitor Center and Trading Post rehabilitation project. After years of planning and insurance settlements totaling $6.9M from a 2016 fire, the project has completed its design phase and secured Boyer Construction through a progressive design-build process. The 5,000 square foot visitor center will include multipurpose meeting space, reservation counter, and expanded deck areas with reservoir views. Construction is expected to begin in March 2026 with completion targeted for summer of the following year (about a 15-month schedule). The project includes full rehabilitation of the existing Trading Post building and represents a shift in operations strategy, with DPRA taking over Trading Post operations from the concessionaire to maximize revenue generation and improve services for campers and day users.
