Major Infrastructure Investment Approved for Water Storage Tanks: The Board approved a $5.64 million construction contract with Moyle Construction to replace aging water storage tanks in Wallace and the Sawmill (Arnold) areas. The Wallace tank serves approximately 100 connections at a cost of roughly $56,000 per connection, while the Sawmill tank serves the much larger Arnold service area with around 1,800 connections. These glass-lined bolted steel tanks have a 50+ year lifespan compared to traditional steel tanks that require recoating every 20-25 years, providing long-term operational efficiency and eliminating concerns about the current tanks' deteriorating roofs under heavy snow loads.
Water Loss Reduction Efforts Underway, Full Report Coming: In response to constituent concerns about water system leakage exceeding state standards, staff confirmed active work is occurring through dedicated utility crews replacing service lines and capital improvement projects. The new AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) system is providing significantly more accurate data than the 40-50 year old meters it replaced, allowing better identification of problem areas. Management committed to bringing a comprehensive multi-departmental report to the Board in the near future, detailing progress, obstacles, and future plans to address system losses across the district's six different distribution systems, while cautioning that staffing and data cleanup may affect exact timing.
