Water Supply Update Shows Strong Position: FID received additional water allocations through three "blocks" of Class 2 water releases from the Bureau of Reclamation, totaling an extra 508 acre feet that was banked in Pine Flat for potential future water programs. This water was made available because it was surplus to San Joaquin River restoration program needs, and FID was able to take it in lieu of Kings River water being delivered to city treatment plants.
Major Infrastructure Maintenance Projects Underway: The district is conducting extensive dredging operations on the Herndon Canal from McKinley to Michigan Avenue, requiring a week-long dewatering process using large 8-inch pumps and copper dams. This canal serves the entire northwest part of FID's service area, and sediment buildup had reached capacity constraints, making this a critical maintenance project costing significant resources.
Groundwater Management Program Shows Progress: The North Kings GSA domestic well mitigation program is now operational with 7.5 requests received, though no wells have been approved for funding yet as most are older than the 50-year threshold. Additionally, 821 wells have been registered out of the required well registration program, with successful workshops helping landowners complete the process before the November 30 deadline.
