1. Wide-Open CVP Water Now Available District-Wide — Act Fast or Lose It The district has approximately 11,000 acre-feet of CVP water remaining out of a 15,000 acre-foot allocation, with a hard deadline of October 31 to move it all. Because grower demand has been extremely low (only ~3,000–4,000 acre-feet used since May), the board discussed and gave general direction to open the system wide open, first-come, first-served — every canal except the East Poplar ditch — for irrigation, and with the option for the district to sink/recharge water on growers' behalf. Staff discussed current-year water and recharge at $205 per acre-foot. If the district cannot move the water through grower use, the board discussed Lower Tule River Irrigation District as a potential backstop for about 5,000–6,000 acre-feet to reduce existing obligations, with Lower Tule potentially running it later. Growers who want water should place orders now; by late October, supplies may already be committed elsewhere.
