Calpella Well #1 Shutdown Direction: Staff received board direction to move forward with shutting down the Calpella Well #1 and purchasing all water from Millview instead, which is expected to improve water quality by eliminating manganese issues from that source. The additional cost is estimated at about $4,000 per year, but this may be largely offset by savings in reduced testing, staff time, and avoiding a roughly $50,000 filtration system installation. The district currently contracts for water from the Russian River Flood Control District, and while this would require roughly an additional 25 acre-feet of water, other member agencies have surplus allocation that can cover this until permanent contract amendments are completed.
Moore Street Bridge Sewer Line Replacement Authorized: The board approved a $46,180 bid from Ernie's Backhoe to replace the entire 360-foot sewer line crossing on Moore Street Bridge. The existing line includes sun-damaged plastic pipe that has already been replaced once and aging steel sections at both ends. The project will take 4-5 days with single-lane traffic control and represents a significant portion of the district's $263,814 capital reserves, but is necessary infrastructure maintenance.
