1. $25 Million Federal Award for Westlands Groundwater Banking Project Approved The board adopted a resolution authorizing the Water Authority to facilitate a $25 million non-reimbursable federal award from Reclamation to Westlands Water District for a groundwater banking project. The funding — which expires at the end of next month — will support installation of aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells that could eventually help move a portion of the south-of-Delta drought pool out of San Luis Reservoir, benefiting multiple member agencies. Westlands already holds a general order for up to 400 ASR wells and has built roughly 80 to date, with each new well averaging about 2,200 acre-feet per year of recharge capacity.
