Board Approves 1,000 Acre-Feet of Imported Water for In-Lieu Deliveries in Las Posas Valley Basin (BOP Project 2) The board approved BOP Project 2, "Purchase of Imported Water from Calleguas Municipal Water District for Basin Replenishment," starting at 1,000 acre-feet for the initial phase (upcoming fiscal year starting July 1) — well below the full target of 3,140 acre-feet identified in the Basin Optimization Yield Study. This initial phase is exploratory: wells in the central pumping depression area (straddling the West/East Las Posas management area boundary) will be rested while surface water is delivered in lieu of groundwater pumping. Historical data shared during public comment showed that a prior in-lieu program delivered ~2,000 acre-feet/year in the west over 15 years and achieved a 90-foot rise in groundwater levels, providing strong precedent for this approach.
